Although cocktail is the catchall term for any alcoholic mixed drink, its truly a rather strange, nonsensical descriptor for such concoctions. There are no Latin roots that offer an explanation, and when considering the name at face value a roosters tail it doesnt really clear anything up, either. Although the term first appeared in print in 1798, it wasnt until 1806 that cocktail shared the definition it bears today.

Heres a new one, folks. Gin from Mexico. But thats not the unusual part. There are several Mexican gins (most of which weve yet to cover). But theres no other gin out there made with sotol, that lesser known southwestern spirit made from Dasylirion wheeleri , a member of the asparagus family. Its the latest creation from Acronimo Spirits and the Casa Ruelas Distillery, a fifth generation sotol producer in Chihuahua.
