South Beach in OB has a HappyHour with this view. Photo: PubClub.com By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com San Diego Blogger Welcome to PubClub.com’s ultimate HappyHour page for San Diego. Here you will find honest, been-there-done-that, boots on the ground reviews of HappyHours all over the city.
Photo: PubClub.com Notable restaurants are George’s At the Cove (pricey), Eddie V’s for steaks La Dolce Vita just across Prospect Street for simple yet excellent Italian food (I especially like the fact they do very generous wine pours) and the botique Beeside Balcony , which has a livemusic and a speakeasy in the back.
There is no livemusic, but the place rocks. Livemusic can be found at d.b.a., It’s mostly for after-work, HappyHourhappy times. On the other end of the bar spectrum is the Howlin’ Wolf, a howling 1,000-capacity livemusic venue (828 South Peters, 522-WOLF).
I pulled up a chair at Baja Beach Cafe one sunny afternoon and after ordering a margarita, the waiter said “it’s HappyHour, so you get two. ” That’s someone I relate to; the HappyHour is 2-4-1 4-7 weekdays and there’s a late-night HappyHour 10:30-12:30 every night.
Modeled after a 1920s train car, Platform 18 serves cocktails like The Gibson Girl (gin or vodka, dry vermouth, sake, orange bitters, and lemon oil) and 54th Street Club (popcorn-infused reposado tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, togarashi, and pandan). Grey Hen takes cues from Prohibition-era Chinatown. In addition to a daily, 4 to 7 p.m.
