However, this whiskey was not created with avid whiskey fans in mind. Instead, it was created as a fun and quirky expression, at a lower ABV and perhaps with a more approachable profile for those not accustomed to drinking whiskey. This is something that needs to be taken into account when you first try this whiskey.

It’s inspired by a sketch from Autumn’s father he created in 2014. Absinthe , Whiskey The 1700 Ingredients 2 oz Jeptha Creed 4 Grain Straight Bourbon 1/4 oz Absinthe 1/2 oz Luxardo Cherry Juice 1 Egg White 1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice Garnish with Nutmeg Preparation Combine all ingredients over ice into a shaker tin.

But this simple twist on a Highball cocktail, typically made with blended Scotch and soda water, came from respected whisky writer Dave Broom. While researching for his excellent 2014 book, Whisky: The Manual , Broom was keen to find the perfect pairing for each drink. Let alone one made with Coca-Cola.

But once upon a time, back when Dante opened in 2015, the cocktail to drink was the Garibaldi, an obscure highball made of Campari and “fluffy” orange juice and topped with an orange wedge. It’s been around since the bar opened in 2014 and is ordered whether it’s on the menu or not. The drink is as kicky as the Gibson is gentle.

Keep in mind, in 2014 you didn’t have to sign a blood oath with your Southern rep and stash 14 cases of Fireball in a basement to get a Pappy allocation. It began with a question, and one of those sentences that should be surrounded by a trumpeting choir of angels: “Hey Jack, want some Pappy?” Your choice which one!”

Although the concept stems back to at least 1942 , this more official effort was launched in 2014 and has caught on in the States in recent years. The Alcohol Change in the UK endorses a formal campaign each year to encourage people to stop drinking for the month of January.
