The aging casks were also formerly used for sherry and wine maturation, adding a complex depth of fruit to the resulting bourbon.

My thinking here is that Mortlach can have a decent kick of spice, even in its official bottlings, living up to its “Beast of Dufftown” nickname. The sherry finish and higher ABV of this particular bottling really make the sweetness of pork meatballs shine. Like bacon, pineapple was chosen by 4% of respondents.

The Aberfeldy 1975 25 Year Old Cadenhead Bond Reserve Welcome back to another installment of Scotch Whiskey Legends. The bottle in question is a true rarity from independent bottler, Cadenhead. One of the earliest examples of Aberfeldy as a single malt was in Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range, first bottled in the 1980s.

Although the bottles were marketed as ‘Anniversary Malts’, they were not actually bottled for the anniversary of anything. Rather, it was a marketing ploy to encourage whisky drinkers to buy bottles for birthdays and anniversaries. The Macallan 1962 25 Year Old Anniversary Malt was bottled in 1988 at 43% ABV.

The 21 year old Mizunara-finished whisky is bottled at 46% ABV and is set to retail for around $149.99. The 15 year old expression, bottled at 46% ABV, is first matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to Madeira casks for finishing. The 15 year old was distilled in 2008 and is limited to 5,826 bottles.
